Piranga: A bird-bander's aid to identifying, ageing and sexing birds of the Western hemisphere

Photo: Summer Tanager Photo: Summer Tanager Photo: Scarlet Tanager

This module is designed mainly for bird-banders and other ornithologists who need to capture and study birds as part of their research. Most birds are protected in North America by federal, state, provincial or territorial law and permits are required before they may be captured or marked. All of the images on this site were taken by permitted bird-banders who have been trained to handle and photograph birds safely. Anyone wanting to handle birds must ensure they have appropriate training and all required permits before doing so.
