Common Ringed Plover - Charadrius hiaticula

Photo: markkilner (http://www.flickr.com/photos/markkilner/5732765227/); United Kingdom; Adult; Breeding;
Song: Voice is key distinguishing feature from very similar looking Semipalmated Plover. Contact call is a soft mellow whistle "TOO-lip" or "TOOee" rising in pitch; display songs are similar but with longer notes "TOO-widee TOO-widee...". Calls and songs are hollower than Semipalmated Plover's. Alarm calls are similar to Lesser Yellowlegs alarm calls.
Sound: Henri Ouellet (Macaulay Library, Cornell # 74467); 1979 Jun 29; Canada, Northwest Territories; Ellesmere Island, Alexandra Fjord; Adult; Primary Sound;
