Mountain Chickadee - Poecile gambeli

Photo: tony battiste; 2012 Jun 19; USA, California; Plumas Natl Forest; Adult;
Song: Whistled plaintive "hey-swe-sweetie" song similar to Black-capped Chickadee’s but with 3-6 syllables. Song pattern varies with local dialects. Call is a "tchick-deeh-deeh" or a "chicka dzee dzee" descending in pitch on the "deeh/dzee" notes. Harsher, slower and more nasal than Black-capped Chickadee.
Sound: Geoffrey A. Keller (Macaulay Library, Cornell # 44913); 1989 May 27; USA, Oregon; 39 km NE from LaPine, Deschutes Co; Adult; Primary Sound;
