Photo: Ann Cook; Adult; Male; Breeding;
Song: Song is a whistling, melodic, robin-like "cheer-up, cheer-a-lee, cheer-ee-o" with a piercing quality. Sometimes described as a robin that's taken singing lessons, as phrases are more varied and tone is clearer. Distinctive call note is a high-pitched "peek" often interspersed in song or given shortly after song. Male will sing on nest.
