Barred Owl - Strix varia

Photo: Collin Tanner; Adult;
Song: The common call is an emphatic, somewhat nasal series of hoots, "who-cooks-for-you, who-cooks-for-you-all", with pronounced drawl on the last syllable. Frequently an abbreviated "you-you-you-you-all" or just "you-all". Family groups may produce a chorus of typical calls intermixed with cackles, screeches and growls.
Sound: Monty Brigham (Nature Sounds of Ontario); 1993 May 23; Canada, Ontario; Bob's Lake; Adult; Primary Sound;
