Northern Saw-whet Owl - Aegolius acadicus

Photo: Charles M. Francis © Environment Canada; 2009 Jan 14; Canada, British Columbia; Ladner; Adult;
Song: The male gives a monotonous series of short, staccato whistles on the same pitch and delivered at a rate of 2 per second, audible over distances of up to 1km. Taped playbacks often elicit a softer, lower-pitched and more rapid version (4-5 per second). Occasionally females may perform a softer version in duet with male.
