Spotted Owl - Strix occidentalis

Photo: tony battiste; 2008 Aug 6; USA, Arizona; Miller Canyon, Huachuca Mts, Cochise Co; Adult; Mixed; Breeding;
Song: The common call is a deep rhythmic 4 part hooting "whup, hoo-hoo, hoooo". More monotone, higher-pitched and with longer pauses between hoots than Barred Owl's "who cooks" call. Rasping whistles and screeches made by family groups, juvenile calls are rougher than adults.
Sound: John Neville (Bird Songs of Canada's West Coast); Canada, British Columbia; Pemberton; Adult; Primary Sound;
