Downy Woodpecker - Picoides pubescens

Photo: Ann Cook; Adult; Male;
Song: The call is a distinctive, descending series of harsh nasal notes with a whinnying quality. Also a dry "pik", softer than call-note of Hairy Woodpecker. Fast, even drumming is slightly slower than Hairy Woodpecker, but drums of the two essentially indistinguishable.
Sound: Macaulay Library (Macaulay Library, Cornell); Adult; Primary Sound;
